Aladdin Kids

The Summer Challenge: Day 19

The Weekend Housewife - Aladdin Kids - Roy By Kelley Elementary School

Just like last year, the elementary school that Shawn and my niece Jordan attend put on a children’s musical. Last year it was Willy Wonka Kids, but this year they did Aladdin Kids and they didn’t disappoint! I have mentioned it before but these are (in my opinion) the best children’s plays that I have ever seen! Jordan still had a small role in the chorus but she was able to come up and do a small dance with some of the other kids.

She’s the 2nd child from the left. I am a proud aunt, can’t you tell? 🙂

This year they had their performance at the Palace Theater, instead of at the high school. Plus, they limited the cast to the 3rd and 4th graders, so there weren’t as many kids. After seeing all 128 kids last year, I don’t blame them for limiting it! That’s a lot of kids! I didn’t know it before hand but Shawn’s teacher was the director of the play. How she found the time is beyond me but I am grateful for her dedication to these kids. (and to all teachers for all they do!)

The little girl that played Geni did a fabulous job! She was really funny and even did some of the quirky things that Geni does in the movie. She really did steal the show, even though all the kids did a great job!

The magic carpet ride was my favorite part of the entire play. My sister had seen the dress rehearsals and told me that I needed to see the magic carpet. I couldn’t even begin to imagine how they did this on stage. The box was on wheels and the kids stood behind it and rolled it back and forth on the stage. It was just too cute!

I know that Shawn has a few more years to go before he’s able to participate, but I really can’t wait to see him up there! (Hopefully, he will want to do it!) Until then, I will be just as happy to watch the other kids perform. Next year will be Jordan’s last year since she will be moving up to middle school.
