Apple Pickin’ Fun
We have made it a family tradition to go apple picking at Blackman Homestead Farms each autumn. It’s only about 15 minutes from our house, so we don’t have to go too far and it’s always a fun time. It was kind of cold and very muddy (it rained heavily the day before), so it wasn’t as much fun but we still picked a lot of apples tho. Last year we made apple sauce but we didn’t save any of it for the rest of the year, so this year we decided to make more and freeze it. We use an old fashioned apple press that Michael’s grandmother used! It still works great, so there isn’t any reason to go out and buy something else.
Shawn and I have been eating, baking and making yummy caramel apples (more on that tomorrow!) because we just can’t get enough of them. I have been seeing a lot of great apple recipes on facebook and on pinterest, so I can see more baked goods in our future. Speaking of apples, Shawn and I are going to be doing some art projects with them too (apple printing and stuffed paper apples are on the list). Here are a few photos from our day…
