A Day Trip to Niagara Falls

The Summer Challenge: Day 4

The Weekend Housewife - Niagara Falls

I did a post last year for my Hometown Series about Niagara Falls and I mentioned that we live only 30 minutes away from all it’s beauty and grandeur. We try to visit at least once a year but that’s about it. It’s swarming with tourists and especially during the summer and honestly, makes for a miserable trip sometimes. People can be downright pushy and rude, so we tend to stay away. However, we still fight the crowds and walk around because the state park is quite large and even though the American side isn’t booming with business (like the Canadian side), it’s still quite pretty!

We took Lucy along with us so she could see the falls too. It was a gorgeous summer day and couldn’t have asked for better weather. My sister Jennifer and my niece Jordan came along for the day trip too. We actually did something that we had never done before; visited the tourist center. Sounds funny to say that, but we had never been there before. Just as I expected though – everything was so over priced! Never again… lol

When Michael and I were married in June 2006, we came to Niagara Falls to have photos done. We didn’t go near the actual falls because of how crowed it would be; plus with the mist coming off the water, we would have gotten wet. The park, and the river made for a pretty backdrop though. I will be doing a post on this sometime in the near future. 🙂

One of the things that I have always wanted to do (but have never done) is go on the Maid of the Mist. My sister and I have decided that we are going to go next year and the kids are all excited to go. You’d think that after living here my entire life that I would have done, but that’s just not the case. All my family grew up here, so it’s not like we’d have someone come into town and we could do touristy things. Plus, the wait time is always so long that for a small day trip we just couldn’t be bothered. We were talking with some lady on this trip and she told us to just suck it up and go. lol So we plan on it….

Shawn and Jordan were really into posing for pictures. These two don’t always get along (there’s a 3 year age difference between them) but they do love each other a lot. 🙂 Cousins Rock!

Lucy was really enjoying the sunshine and didn’t mind that we walked a couple miles around the entire park. If you ever get to visit Niagara Falls, make sure you take it all in and visit Three Sisters Island, Goat Island and all the other great hidden nooks. There is plenty to see, so don’t be fooled that you need to go into Canada to have a good time. Like I said, we may not have the business but that park is beautiful in itself.

Hi Jules! What great pictures. I completely agree with you about tourist. We tend to stay away from the touristy spots as well. With that being said, we do want to visit Niagara Falls one day. Great photos!

Great pictures and post… and one day I will have to venture over to your side of the Falls because it does look gorgeous 😉 I’ve never done the Maid of the Mist either… mostly for vanity reasons 😉

    Hugs
