End of School Fun Run
Summer 2016 Challenge: Day 3
At the end of the school year the PTA sponsors a friendly “Fun Run” for each grade to participate in. It’s after school and at the middle school track. Each grade has a different amount that they need to run. Shawn had to run a 1/4 mile (once around the track) and my niece had to run a full mile. They both did a great job and even though they both came in last for their grades, they finished the entire race and that’s what matters.
The above photo is all of the 1st grade runners after they received their medals. I didn’t get a shot of the 4th graders with Jordan but she was on the blue team.
This photo cracks me up because they had all the kids line up and run down to the starting line. Shawn came out behind all the kids and ran down with his arms out, as though he was flying. This is totally Shawn and drew attention to himself. He likes to make people laugh – even if it’s at his own expense.
I was very surprised that he ran the entire lap without stopping and for a little bit he was 2nd to last but at the last minute the other kid sped up and passed him. I am very proud of him for running the race and making it through to the finish line.
This was right before he crossed the finish line. He had such a great time and was excited to be part of it this year. He didn’t get to participate in it last year but he was having some issues and I wasn’t comfortable in him running that distance in the really hot weather.
This is my niece running (I believe) her first lap. She had a tough time making it 4 times around but she did a combination of running and walking. She made it though and I couldn’t be more proud! This is her last Fun Run since she’s moving up to 5th grade and that school doesn’t do one.
She had such a look of determination every time she finished a lap and her hard work paid off in the end.
I even got a slight smile as she crossed the finish line. I was actually impressed that 3 out of the 5 grades participating in the Fun Run were “won” by girls! Go girls go!
After the race they each got a bottle of water, a snack (apple or banana), and of course a medal. So proud of you two!!
