Friday Favorites: The Bedtime Bookfair
The Summer Challenge: Day 13
Anyone that knows me, knows that Shawn and I read a lot! Back in May I saw a post from Scholastic with a rather cute idea to encourage kids to read at bedtime. It was for a Bedtime Book Fair and it looked like something Shawn would totally be into! We have about 300 children’s books in our house and some of them get read all the time, others every now and then, and some don’t get read at all. We also pack away our holiday books for the season they belong in. We want to keep them special and be a treat during that time of the year, however for this we unpacked them all. It was a lot of fun! (and we had popcorn to snack on!)
When I asked Shawn if this was something he would like to do, I was bombarded with a million questions…. especially, how many can we read? Well, I said, there is no limit to the number of books we can read. He became increasingly excited by the thought of reading “100 books and staying up until 3am” (his words exactly!). He usually gets 2 books each night, with the occasional 3rd book for good bedtime behavior, so the thought of unlimited books excited him greatly!
Shawn lasted 2 hours and we read 13 books before he asked me to stop so he could go to sleep. It was earlier than I thought because I was sure he’d make it to the 3 hour mark. I was very glad because I was starting to get really tired myself.
Here’s a photo of Shawn and I reading Room on the Broom. I mentioned this book in my Top 10 Favorite Halloween Books last year. I was really looking forward to reading this book and was practically begging Shawn to pick it out. lol Of course, I am wearing my Green Eggs & Ham pajamas too. (in keeping with the book reading theme, of course! 😉 )
I also want to include some of Shawn’s favorite books in our collection:
(these are not affiliate links)
3. Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus
5. All Berenstain Bears Books
8. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
10. The Lorax
We have so many other favorite books, but I just can’t list them all. You can read about our Top 10 Favorite Halloween Books HERE and I am positive that we will be doing more posts like this in the future.
