Lens Day Wednesday (Special Edition)

(Day #27: 30-Day Blog Challenge)

The Weekend Housewife - Panda Adoption - Jason & Tera's Adoption Shop - No Longer OnlineIt’s Lens Day Wednesday!

This Lens Day Wednesday I am going to do something a little bit different. I am not going to be showing off any of my photography. I am going to give you a little peek into what I do at my day job. I am a graphic & website designer and I don’t usually talk too much about it on here or on Facebook. It’s a part of who I am and my passion, so it just makes sense to include it on the blog.

Let me tell you a little bit about my career before I show you some samples. I went to college right after I graduated from high school in 1999. I graduated in 2003 with a BA Graphic Design and I started my career shortly thereafter. (I will be talking about my college years in September for the next Chatterbug College Homework Assignment)

The Weekend Housewife - Graphic Designer

I have been with my current company for about 1 1/2 years and I design websites, email promotions, logos and other materials exclusively for florist shops. It’s really nice to work with such a beautiful subject. I get to do designs that classic and elegant and turn around and do a design for a fresh and funky shop. It’s a neat industry to work in and I really enjoy it.

At the position that I held before this one, I worked in the marketing department for a truck parts manufacturer. I was hired for website design but I did so much more. I created posters, flyers, labels, stickers, enclosure cards, brochures, etc. Here are just a couple of the printed pieces that I did for them. (talk about a totally different style then what I am doing now. lol)

My first design job was working for a pool supply catalog company. They were/are like the 3rd largest in the country and I worked for them for 6 years. We had 10 websites and I maintained them, designed graphics, email promotions and other things that came my way. It was a great jumping off point for my career and I learned a lot from working there. These are just a few email promotions that I designed for them.

There are so many different design examples I could show you but I don’t want this to turn into my portfolio. Even though I do have an online one, it hasn’t been updated in about 1 1/2 years, so it isn’t worth showing off. Plus it is in badly need of a makeover. But there you have it. This is what I “do” during the day…

Hi Jules! Playing catch up again! I loved spending time here! Your posts are always so great. Emily has a camera too…I gave her my Canon EOS Rebel T2i when I got my Canon 7d. It’s so cute to see her shooting! And Shawn looks adorable with his camera! I sometimes wonder why she takes pics of certain things too. Lol. Btw – what lens do you use mostly? Especially the ones of the close ups of Shawn.

Love your digital scrap pages! I love doing it too, but so hard to find the time. I have so many kits though – I’d say at least 150, & it can honestly take me DAYS to get all the papers, elements, ect together to do ONE page!

Loved the retro rides!! What great pics too!

You do amazing at your work! I’d love to be a graphic designer! It would not be work to me, & how great to have a job that doesn’t feel like work – to be paid for something you Iove!

Have a great rest of your day Jules! Hugs

Hi Jules! I am finally all caught up with you. I really need to stop slacking. 🙂 You, my friend, are so very very talented. Your work looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing it. I hope you have a beautiful Wednesday. Hugs!!

Wow Jules, I had no idea that you did so much! (not trying to say that you don’t do anything, of course). For awhile I wanted to be a florist, but then reality reminded me that I have horrid seasonal allergies so, that idea went to the trash quickly. You do such beautiful work 🙂

Jules, you’re doing what I would love to do! Your work is wonderful. I’ve often thought of studying graphic design and doing a home business but just never did. Every since i learned html, I’ve experimented with my own web site and so forth. CSS still stumps me though. I enjoyed seeing your work here!

Wow Jules! Your work is beautiful! What a rewarding job you have! Do you work from home? It was great learning about your day job! Can’t wait to read about your college days! Hugs!

Hi Kathy, No I wish I could work from home but my office is really neat. I should do a post about it sometime. I actually work in a barn that has been remodeled. It’s super cool!
