Lens Day Wednesday (Special Edition)
(Day #27: 30-Day Blog Challenge)
This Lens Day Wednesday I am going to do something a little bit different. I am not going to be showing off any of my photography. I am going to give you a little peek into what I do at my day job. I am a graphic & website designer and I don’t usually talk too much about it on here or on Facebook. It’s a part of who I am and my passion, so it just makes sense to include it on the blog.
Let me tell you a little bit about my career before I show you some samples. I went to college right after I graduated from high school in 1999. I graduated in 2003 with a BA Graphic Design and I started my career shortly thereafter. (I will be talking about my college years in September for the next Chatterbug College Homework Assignment)
I have been with my current company for about 1 1/2 years and I design websites, email promotions, logos and other materials exclusively for florist shops. It’s really nice to work with such a beautiful subject. I get to do designs that classic and elegant and turn around and do a design for a fresh and funky shop. It’s a neat industry to work in and I really enjoy it.
At the position that I held before this one, I worked in the marketing department for a truck parts manufacturer. I was hired for website design but I did so much more. I created posters, flyers, labels, stickers, enclosure cards, brochures, etc. Here are just a couple of the printed pieces that I did for them. (talk about a totally different style then what I am doing now. lol)
My first design job was working for a pool supply catalog company. They were/are like the 3rd largest in the country and I worked for them for 6 years. We had 10 websites and I maintained them, designed graphics, email promotions and other things that came my way. It was a great jumping off point for my career and I learned a lot from working there. These are just a few email promotions that I designed for them.
There are so many different design examples I could show you but I don’t want this to turn into my portfolio. Even though I do have an online one, it hasn’t been updated in about 1 1/2 years, so it isn’t worth showing off. Plus it is in badly need of a makeover. But there you have it. This is what I “do” during the day…
